Internships
Growing the Next Generation of Leaders
United Prairie has developed, and now offers, innovative and competitive internships in our three main areas – Agronomy, Seed, and Operations. Partnering with the next generation and seeing how our experiences can grow their passions, see where their career can go, and what they can bring to help grow United Prairie.
The internships are offered through the months of May and August. This allows for hands-on, paid training while gaining experience in a high paced work setting. Along with the internship, they will also be able to work on a specific project they will follow through with all summer. This will help them strike interest and gain knowledge in something they enjoy while taking charge of it themselves.
Our Internship Program goal is to create a hands-on learning experience for those interested in agronomy, operations, general agriculture, seed, and/or sales. We want to make the summer enjoyable, but also allow it to fit the needs of the individual. We want to provide real-world agriculture retail experience, but enjoy the summer while doing it.
Our Agronomy Internship program works side by side with our Agronomy Manager during the growing season. They work to diagnose field issues on-site, understand characteristics of disease, insect and weed pressure, identifying nutrient deficiencies, and gain experience with the Agronomy sales staff.
Our Seed Specialist Internship program works side by side with our Agronomy Manager and the Seed Manager. They work on helping manage seed returns, manage field sign set up, work with the seed salesmen, and assist the agronomy interns in the daily activities when needed.
Our Operations Internship program works side by side with our Operations Manager and our Operations Team. They are in equipment with the operators learning how they run their machines. They are also gaining knowledge on the newest technology we use. Such as learning how our iPads work, the Viper 4’s, the vision cameras, etc. They work to learn the basics of operating equipment and what it is like to work in Ag Retail at the operational level.
Our goal is to provide these Internships every summer. Our internships are based out of Tolono, Illinois, but there is opportunity for the Internship to take place at another one of our 13 locations if it works best.
